It was painted first. The color came before everything else.
This pendant starts with a hand-painted coral and orange background, warm as an ember, flecked with metallic shimmer that catches the light from different angles. Over that, a layer of resin, and pressed into it, a detailed moth illustration on one side and a mushroom on the other. It is a two-sided piece, which means it has two moods, two moments, two things to find depending on how it lands against you. The antique gold-tone setting is round, about an inch and a half across, substantial enough to be noticed but light enough to forget you're wearing it.
From my studio, part of the Hidden Glen series, where the moths and the mushrooms have always kept company. As with all pieces, this one is one of a kind. Once it's gone, it's gone.
