The Light I Love... for five flicks

The Light I Love... for five flicks

by Onyx, Void Creature, House Panther, Keeper of Streaming Ritual

There are many mysteries in this world, but none so powerful as the Luminous N.

I do not ask for much in this life.
A warm sunbeam.
A bowl of water that has been recently stirred by my human.
A fresh serving of the fanciest of feasts.
And, of course, the Luminous N.

That's right.
The glowing sigil of power that appears on the large rectangle in the living room.
The one my humans call "Net-flicks."
The one I call My Glowing Situationship.

Let me explain.

It Summons Me

I can be anywhere in the house.
Asleep.
Deeply asleep.
Dreaming of hunting cosmic dust motes in the void between worlds.

And then it happens.

The N awakens.

It does not make a sound.
Not yet. It simply glows.
My Luminous N.

And I know.

I always know.

Before the Sacred "ta-DUM".
Before anyone even reaches for the blanket.
Before the couch remembers its purpose.

I am there.

Materializing like a shadow with opinions.
Appearing on the top of the chair like a gargoyle who has been waiting centuries for this moment.

I offer the chitter I save for birds, moths, and other unattainable loves.
I put my whiskers into seduction mode.
I give it my most bewitching void-creature face.

The Luminous N awakens a yearning in me.

The Betrayal

And then…
The glow fades.

The Luminous N becomes…
... ordinary.

So does my interest.
I leave immediately.

I have no loyalty to the post-glow world.

I must check the water bowl.
Not to drink; heavens no; but to ensure it is prepared for my future hydration needs.

I inspect the blanket situation.
I locate the warmest lap and then sit upon it with the clear understanding that touching is forbidden.

I resume my duties as Supervisor of All Things.

The Luminous N has served its purpose.
Until the next summoning.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must go judge the hallway for existing.

P.S. - I have curated a selection of items worthy of the Void. You may browse my favorites at your leisure. Or don't. I will judge you either way
