Winnie the Pet Ghost

Some ghosts haunt houses. This one decided a necklace was cozier.

Winnie drifts in a field of flowers, sealed under resin in a swirl of plum and amethyst and deep bruised violet, the colors of a sky that has just given up on daylight. Pale lacy botanicals trail beneath her like frost on a window, and a single pink bloom holds on at the edge. She floats there in the middle of it, small and round and perfectly content, with two little eyes and the calm expression of something that has nowhere else to be.

The frame around her is a reclaimed vintage link, cut from an old necklace that someone else wore first. I like that part. A ghost is a thing that stays behind, and so is a piece of jewelry that outlives the person who chose it. Winnie got the right house.

She is a pet ghost, which means she is low maintenance in the way only the dearly departed can be. No feeding, no walks, no opinions about your schedule. She simply comes along, hovers at your collarbone, and quietly implies that you are the kind of person who keeps interesting company.

From my studio, part of the Spooky Glen series, a limited seasonal release of five little ghosts who each wandered in with their own coloring and their own attitude. When the season closes, the Glen closes with it. Once she is gone, she is gone.
