Some things should not exist. This is one of them, and it's perfect.
A sand dollar tooth — one of five that live inside every sand dollar, used for feeding, released only when the creature is gone — shaped, improbably, like a tiny bat. This one was set into a vintage brass bezel, round and worn at the edges the way good things get, with a small rectangle of filigree framing the tooth against a black background. The effect is part Victorian specimen case, part creature sighting, part cosmic joke that the ocean has been sitting on for a while.
It hangs on an 18" adjustable chain and sits just under three-quarters of an inch across. It is strange. It is correct. As with all pieces, this one is one of a kind. Once it's gone, it's gone.
