The Spider's Cabinet Pendant

Somebody kept a collection here. Something else has been maintaining it.

This one is clear all the way through, no backdrop to hide behind, just black webbing stretched across the open space and the collection suspended inside it. A barred feather lies across the center, soft and striped and still holding its shape. Snail shells rest in the web with tiny mushrooms coming up beside them, moss gathered along the bottom edge, and one small peach stone sitting up near the top like the specimen the collector was proudest of.

Because the resin is transparent, the light goes straight through and the web throws its own shadow onto your skin. The piece changes depending on what you are wearing under it. That was not an accident, but I will admit it turned out better than I planned.

The frame is a reclaimed silver tone bezel, cut from a necklace that someone else wore first. At an inch and three quarters it is one of the larger pieces to come out of the studio, and it wears like a specimen case you happen to have around your neck.

From my studio, part of the Vintage Glen series, where what was worn before finds a new chapter. As with all pieces, this one is one of a kind. Once it is gone, it is gone.
