Some things should not exist. This one arrived at dusk, and it dressed for the occasion.
A sand dollar tooth — one of five that live inside every sand dollar, used for feeding, released only when the creature is gone — shaped, improbably, like a tiny bat. This one was set into a vintage brass bezel, round and warm, with an ornate gold filigree oval framing the tooth against a background of dusty purple and gold. Where its sibling, the Shadow Vesper, is stark and certain, this one is richer. More jewel-toned. The kind of thing that catches light in a dim room and makes someone ask.
It hangs on an 18" adjustable chain and sits just under three-quarters of an inch across. It is strange. It is correct. As with all pieces, this one is one of a kind. Once it's gone, it's gone.
