The Parlour Spore Pendant

The people left. Something else moved in and started decorating.

Behind the glass is a wall of old teal, torn and curling the way wallpaper goes when a room has been empty long enough to stop pretending. Hanging on that wall is a silver filigree frame, all scrollwork and old fashioned fuss, and inside the frame is the arrangement: a snail shell turned on its side and put to work as a vase, pale and coiled, with a small mushroom rising out of the opening and moss tucked in around it. Somebody hung a picture in an abandoned parlour. The picture is a mushroom in a shell. I think about that a lot.

The whole room sits inside a reclaimed silver tone bezel, cut from a necklace that someone else wore first. A frame within a frame within a frame, which feels correct for a piece about rooms that outlast the people in them. All of it in three quarters of an inch.

From my studio, part of the Vintage Glen series, where what was worn before finds a new chapter. As with all pieces, this one is one of a kind. Once it is gone, it is gone.
